
LANSING — State Senator Joe Bellino says Michigan’s new state budget includes several positive investments but also a major change he couldn’t support.
Bellino says the budget raises the wholesale tax on marijuana by 24% — an increase he believes will cost jobs in his district.
That was Senator Joseph Bellino, who says, despite his opposition to the tax hike.
The budget restores funding for school safety programs and increases per-pupil funding for Michigan schools.
He also pointed to a new “KIDS” program that provides monthly stipends to parents during the early years of a child’s life, a pilot effort expanding statewide this year.
