MICHIGAN — Freudenberg e-Power Systems is closing two XALT Energy battery plants in Midland and Auburn Hills, cutting 324 jobs.

According to MLive, 230 employees work at the Midland site and at the Auburn Hills location. Company officials said operations will wind down over the next several months, with employment support offered to affected workers.

The closures add to a series of clean-energy setbacks in Michigan this year, including layoffs at Dana Incorporated and General Motors’ Factory Zero EV plant in Detroit. Federal policy changes that rolled back clean-energy tax credits have been linked to reduced production and investment across the sector.

Freudenberg, which became sole owner of XALT Energy in 2023, manufactures lithium-ion batteries for commercial and maritime vehicles.
