MONROE CO. — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says a late-night chase that started in Monroe ended safely in Melvindale Wednesday night.
Deputy Zachery Marzouq tried to stop a U-Haul box truck around 10:55 PM near West Front and Cass Streets. The driver refused to stop and sped away, heading north into Frenchtown Township, then onto I-75 toward Wayne County.
During the chase, the driver threw items out the window and hit speeds up to 75 miles per hour. The pursuit was called off after the truck exited at Dix Highway in Lincoln Park.
A short time later, the U-Haul crashed into another vehicle on Toledo-Dix Road. No one was hurt. The driver ran but was caught by Deputy Austin Graham in a Melvindale backyard.
The suspect, a 23-year-old man from Maybee, faces several charges, including fleeing and eluding and drug violations. The case remains under investigation.
