ADRIAN — The Daily Bread of Lenawee is warning residents about possible donation scams after hearing reports of robocalls claiming to represent local food charities.

Executive Director Jim Southard said The Daily Bread does not solicit donations by phone or online and that any such messages should be ignored.

Southard told WLEN News that The Daily Bread only accepts donations made in person or by direct contact with the organization. Residents should be cautious of anyone calling, texting, or posting online about food bank donations, since some of the information circulating on social media is inaccurate or outdated.

The Daily Bread has also discontinued its pantry program earlier this year to focus entirely on serving hot meals — the only agency in Lenawee County that provides prepared lunches five days a week. Southard said residents who wish to support local hunger relief should donate directly to their preferred local pantry or soup kitchen to ensure gifts stay within the county.

A full list of verified pantries is available on The Daily Bread’s website, including sites such as Fishes and Loaves, Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul, and the First United Methodist Church in Adrian.
