LANSING — The Michigan State Police is now taking applications from licensed police officers for the 151st Trooper Recruit School, planned to begin in July 2026.
This is a 12-week lateral entry class (shorter than the 20- to 22-week traditional school) and is designed for officers with prior law enforcement experience.
MSP leaders said the shorter class recognizes the value of trained officers and gives them an accelerated path to join the agency.
Troopers and sergeants recently received a 20% pay increase, on top of benefits and promotion options.
To qualify, applicants must have at least 2 years of continuous experience as an MCOLES-licensed officer in good standing, or secure MCOLES recognition of prior training and experience if they are from another state.
More information and applications are available at michigan.gov/MSPJobs.
