LANSING — The Michigan Education Trust, or MET, has been honored for financial excellence.
The state’s prepaid college tuition program received the top national award for its annual financial report for the budget year that ended last September.
The Government Finance Officers Association gave MET its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The award signals that MET is handling college savings dollars with strong controls and clear reporting.
The financial report was judged by an independent panel and praised for being complete, accurate, and easy for families to understand.
MET is Michigan’s 529 prepaid tuition program. It lets families lock in today’s tuition rates for future college costs, with tax advantages when used for approved school expenses.
