LENAWEE CO. — Lenawee County is launching a Halloween candy-wrapper recycling program. Four drop-off boxes will be placed at local libraries starting October 25.

The boxes will take plastic candy wrappers through November 7.

The drop-off sites are the Adrian Public Library, Tecumseh District Library, Blissfield Library and the Britton Branch of the Lenawee District Library.

County staff say the project is meant to reduce waste that usually goes to landfills after Halloween. The boxes were paid for with a state grant and will be mailed to a recycling company after collection. Only plastic foil-lined wrappers, flexible wrap and blister packs will be accepted.

An extra box was also given to the LISD Tech Center Natural Resources program for students to fill. For questions, residents can e-mail solid.waste@lenawee.mi.us.
