ADRIAN — Adrian Police Chief Vince Emrick announced on Monday that the Adrian Police Department will be reintroducing their traffic unit.

In a presentation to the Adrian City Commission at their regular meeting, Chief Emrick cited a statewide increase in crashes involving vulnerable roadway users, as well as increased deaths among teenagers and distracted drivers, as reasons for the renewed initiative.

Last year, according to Chief Emrick’s statistics, the city of Adrian saw 845 crashes, with 3 fatalities and at least 56 injuries. For this initiative, the APD will lease a vehicle using budgeted funds, in partnership with the Michigan State Police and Region of Irish Hills Narcotics Office, or RHINO.
