LENAWEE CO. — Low- to moderate-income families across Michigan received nearly $3,900 on average this year through state and federal Earned Income Tax Credits.
According to the Michigan Department of Treasury, more than 665,000 households benefited from the combined credits during the 2025 tax season. The state portion averaged about $890, while the federal credit averaged just under $3,000.
State Treasurer Rachael Eubanks said the credits are helping working families cover essentials like food, bills, and housing expenses.
The Earned Income Tax Credit supports individuals and families earning below certain income limits. Those who qualify for the federal credit automatically receive the Michigan version, worth up to 30 percent of the federal amount.
Officials say the 2026 filing season begins in January.
