SAGINAW — The principal of a Catholic high school and junior high in Saginaw has died, local school officials said.
Dan Decuf, head of school for Nouvel Catholic Central High School and Junior High, said in a statement that Tim Marciniak passed away Friday, “after an ongoing health challenge.”
Nouvel Catholic Central High School and Middle School classes were canceled on Friday, according to a post on the Saginaw Township-based school’s Facebook page.
Decuf said, in addition to existing support staff currently at the school, the institution will provide mental health practitioners from noon to 3 p.m. at the school to help support students, staff and families.
Marciniak spent more than three decades in education, according to his biography on Nouvel Catholic Central’s website.
He joined Nouvel Catholic Central in 2023 after spending the previous 17 years as principal at Bay City Central High School.
He also once served as principal at MacGregor Elementary School in Bay City.
Marciniak was a Bay City resident and married with two children.
According to MLIVE.com, Marciniak has shared publicly his struggles with health in the past.
In 2009, while serving at Bay City Central High School, Marciniak said he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, or bone marrow cancer, and underwent aggressive treatment.
One year later, Marciniak said he defeated the illness.
