LANSING — The Michigan Legislature has approved the state budget for the 2025–2026 fiscal year.

The plan includes record-high funding for schools, adding $442 more per student and setting the total at $10,050. Public cyber school students will now receive equal funding.

Nearly $2 billion in new funding is directed to repair Michigan’s roads and bridges.

The budget also adds permanent transparency rules. Every special project, or earmark, must now be reviewed in public hearings, and for-profit companies are barred from receiving earmarks.

State Representative Nancy Jenkins-Arno of Rollin Township chairs the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor and Economic Opportunity. She led the effort to add these transparency measures.

The new budget will take effect with the start of the state’s fiscal year.
