LENAWEE CO. — The state budget is still not finalized in Lansing, and that leaves recycling programs in counties like Lenawee facing uncertainty.

Officials with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy have indicated counties will likely continue operating at current funding levels. However, there is no guarantee that reimbursement dollars already promised will be delivered.

Local materials management coordinators say they are waiting before making new spending commitments until the state clarifies the funding picture.

For now, Lenawee will move forward with small projects already covered by grants, but future expansion depends on what lawmakers approve in the final state budget.
