MONROE CO. — Monroe County Community College says both its Main Campus in Monroe and its Whitman Center in Temperance have been officially cleared and declared safe after a bomb threat Tuesday morning.
Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Success Scott Behrens said all buildings were evacuated shortly before 10 a.m. after staff received threatening emails. Police and safety officers swept each building, assisted by bomb detection dogs.
As of 4:07 p.m., the college confirmed that all buildings were secure. However, both campuses will stay on lockdown until they reopen Wednesday morning. Vehicles may be retrieved, but buildings remain closed until then.
MCCC issued a correction, noting that an earlier release approximated when sheriff’s deputies arrived. Officials said the exact arrival time is unknown.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating and reported that the email’s IP address was not local. Updates will be shared as available.
