Stolen Vehicle Recovered in Monroe County

MONROE CO. — Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies recovered a stolen vehicle in Bedford Township on Saturday morning.

The incident began around 8 a.m. when Toledo Police told Monroe County Central Dispatch that a 2008 Nissan reported stolen had crossed into Michigan on I-75. The car’s GPS was being tracked by its owner, and updates were given to deputies in the area.

Deputy Zachary Straub spotted the vehicle near Samaria Road and followed it until more deputies arrived. The driver eventually stopped at a Sunoco gas station on Lewis Avenue in Temperance.

Deputies, including Sergeant Michael Bomia, performed a felony stop and arrested the driver and passenger without incident.

The driver, a 35-year-old man from Toledo, was taken to the Monroe County Jail. His name is being withheld until arraignment in 1st District Court. A 28-year-old female passenger, also from Toledo, was released.
