LANSING — Education and Workforce Committee Chair Tim Walberg of Michigan led a markup this week on six bills aimed at retirement security, workplace safety, and worker protections.
The package includes measures to recognize tribal sovereignty in labor matters, improve transparency in retirement and benefit plan investigations, and support employee stock ownership plans.
Other bills address workplace safety programs and clarify the status of direct sellers and real estate agents as independent contractors.
Supporters say the legislation is meant to provide clarity for workers and employers while promoting long-term retirement options and safety programs.
The bills will now move through the committee process in the U.S. House of Representatives.
