ADRIAN — The Adrian City Commission has decided to defer putting more money into repairs at Bohn Pool until next spring.
City Parks and Recreation Director Jeremiah Davies reported that the pool has serious problems, including leaks, a broken slide pump, and a cracked 14-inch return line. He said the facility is now well past its life expectancy.
The pool costs the city about $90,000 more each year than it brings in. Nearly $500,000 has already been spent in recent phase improvements.
Commissioners discussed options like building a smaller pool, adding a splash pad, or partnering with Adrian Public Schools and the YMCA. They said swimming lessons are important for safety, especially for children who cannot afford private programs.
The motion to defer repairs passed unanimously. City staff will continue evaluating options with local schools and the YMCA, with the goal of providing swim lessons and summer swimming opportunities beginning in 2026.*
*Original draft stated that the Adrian City Commission “decided to stop putting more money into repairs.”
Adjustment: Commissioners actually deferred spending until next spring, pending further evaluation by Jeremiah Davies.
Important to clarify:
- The pool is not officially closed at this time.
- Public comments may give the impression of closure, but the commission emphasized continued review of options with APS and the YMCA.
