
Shirley Mae Schubert, age 90, of East Lansing and formerly Adrian, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at The Willows of East Lansing. She was born December 31, 1934, in Ann Arbor, to Edwin and Blanche (Cooper) Kuney. On December 27, 1952, she married Gary Schubert in Adrian and he preceded her in death on January 27, 2013.
Shirley was a bright light who loved everyone and everyone loved her. She was a resilient, kind and incredibly outgoing person who never met a stranger. In their younger years, Shirley and Gary enjoyed hosting parties, playing cards and going dancing with their friends. Shirley loved to play Bingo, Yahtzee with her daughter, and most of all, she loved her K9 companion, Otis, who was always by her side for 15 years.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Timothy (Carol) Schubert, Rochelle (Scott Mills) Schubert, Angela (Chris Daggy) Lentz, and; grandchildren, Nikki (Chad) Wetherald, Nathan (Sabrina) Schubert, Kyle (Natalie) Mills, Whitney (Cameron) Cichocki, and Emily (Brian Seward) Lentz; and eight great-grandchildren. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, William Schubert; grandson, Justin Schubert; sister, Janet Driscoll; and brother, Robert Kuney.
Cremation has taken place. The family will hold a private Celebration of Life.
