ADRIAN — The Lenawee County Materials Management Committee says recycling and waste trends are shifting this year.

As of June, countywide waste hauling was down 17 percent compared to last year. Recycling overall dropped 4 percent, with Tecumseh’s curbside program seeing the biggest change. It fell by 49 tons after residents switched to new bins.

At the same time, the county’s Drop Off Site program is seeing more use. Drop Off Site recycling increased 2 percent, or about four tons, in the first half of the year. July was its busiest month in two years, even with temporary closures caused by cardboard overflow.

The committee says it will keep monitoring the numbers and adjusting outreach to help residents recycle more effectively.
