Lawmakers Push Bipartisan Bills on Menopause Care

LANSING — Lawmakers in Lansing introduced four bipartisan bills this week to expand coverage for menopause and perimenopause care.

The bills would require private insurers and Medicaid to cover treatments like hormone replacement therapy. Another proposal would add training for doctors on women’s midlife health. A fourth bill would require the state health department to post menopause information online to raise awareness and reduce stigma.

Supporters say too many women are left without needed care because of high costs or lack of resources. They note that symptoms such as hot flashes and sleep loss can severely affect daily life.

Lawmakers say similar legislation passed in Louisiana earlier this year with strong bipartisan support.

The Michigan bills will now move through the House committee process.
