WASHINGTON — The Food and Drug Administration is warning people about frozen shrimp sold at Walmart.

Officials say a radioactive chemical called Cesium-137 was found in shipping containers from Indonesia. The shrimp was sold under Walmart’s Great Value brand.

The FDA says none of the shrimp that tested positive has entered the food supply, but they are asking for a recall of all products from that company.

The shrimp may have been sold in 13 states, including our neighbors in Ohio.

The lots being recalled are Great Value frozen raw shrimp with various codes, all with a best by date of March 15, 2027. Those are:

  • 8005540-1
  • 8005538-1
  • 8005539-1

Anyone who has this shrimp is told not to eat it and to throw it away.

The FDA says the levels found would not make someone sick right away, but repeated exposure could raise the risk of cancer.
