
Stanley “Stan” Ray Dunbar, age 82, formerly of Jasper, Michigan, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025, at his home in Adrian.
Stanley was born on November 2, 1942, in Adrian, to Leland and Eleanor “Marcile” (Johnson) Dunbar. He graduated from Sand Creek High School with the Class of 1960. After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Navy from 1960 – 1964. On July 8, 1977, Stan married Rose Ann Coler in Sand Creek, MI. They shared 37 years together before her death on November 7, 2014.
Stan worked at Peerless Gear for 20 years, Faraday for 10 years and later at Libra Manufacturing for 13 years before he retired. He was a member of Adrian First Church of the Nazarene and served with the Fairfield Township Fire Department for more than 25 years. Stan was an avid Michigan State Spartans and Sand Creek Aggies sports fan. He was a jovial person who enjoyed making jokes. Above all else, Stan was a family centered man who was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by his children, Scott (Shelly) Dunbar of Illinois, Shelley (Bill) Kuipers of Florida, Ron Dunbar of New York, and Joe (Shannon) Dunbar of Illinois; 9 grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as “Grandpa Flintstone” and 10 great-grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as “Grandpa Gomer”; and his siblings, Terry (Betty) Dunbar of California and Gloria Herman of Adrian and brother-in-law, Harold Shewman. Stan was preceded in death by his wife, Rose; son, Tony Dumire; sister, Cheryl Shewman, and brothers-in-law, Jerome Herman and Earl Miller.
Funeral services for Stan will be on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian with Pastor Bob Moulding officiating. Visitation will take place on Friday, August 15, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #97. Cremation will follow and he will be inurned at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park in Adrian at a later date.
