Community Renews Call to Act on ICE Detention

hope-in-action

ADRIAN — Adrian residents returned to the podium Monday night to urge city commissioners to speak out on behalf of a detained community member.

The man, who paid bond and met release conditions, remains in federal custody under a recent immigration policy change. Speakers included Aaron Chesher, Laura Bader, and Evelyn Quinn, who described growing fear, trauma, and community grief since the detention occurred.

They emphasized that while immigration law is federal, local leadership still carries weight, and silence, they said, can be a form of permission.

The group asked commissioners to write a letter of support to the judge in the case, as they have done before for other causes.

Chesher, an Adrian resident, called the request, quote, “a matter of representation, not politics,” unquote, and asked the city to use its voice for healing and accountability.

That was Adrian resident Aaron Chesher.
