ADRIAN — A former employee is suing Lenawee Community Mental Health Authority, alleging her termination came while she was still on protected medical leave.

According to a federal complaint filed in late May, Michelle Nieto was employed at CMH starting in February 2022.

Her lawsuit alleges that despite filing the required paperwork, Nieto was denied access to continuous leave, repeatedly pressured to submit documentation, and faced a hostile work environment upon returning to her desk. She says her paid time off was erased.

Her complaint accuses Lenawee CMH of both FMLA interference and retaliation. It seeks monetary damages for emotional distress, loss of wages, and other costs.

A remote scheduling conference is set for August 18 in U.S. District Court. Lenawee CMH has not yet publicly responded to the lawsuit.
