ADRIAN — Adrian’s own Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute has been named a 2025 School of Distinction by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges, a national agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

The honor places SBWI among just 11 institutions nationwide selected from over 265 accredited schools. The award highlights a commitment to student success, educational quality, and continuous improvement.

Executive Director Michael McComis praised SBWI for “promoting excellence and fostering a community committed to providing quality education.”

Founded in Adrian, the school blends fine art and skilled trades, from custom furniture to timber framing, drawing students from across the U.S. and abroad.

Vice President of Enrollment Dena Koehn said, “Our mission is to elevate trade education to the level of respect and dignity it deserves. This recognition validates our work.”

SBWI will officially receive the award at the ACCSC Annual Meeting this September in Arlington, Virginia.
