MORENCI — Early Friday morning, the Morenci Fire Department responded to a semi-trailer fire in the 700 block of East Main Street at 12:41 a.m.

Crews arrived to find a 53-foot flatbed trailer loaded with straw bales and the truck’s sleeper area fully involved. A blitz nozzle was used to protect two nearby homes, while additional lines were deployed.

Roughly 20,000 gallons of water were used in the effort, which saved about 12 to 15 of the 40 straw bales.

Morenci Fire responded with two engines, one tanker, a rescue truck, and 15 firefighters. Mutual aid was provided by Lyons Royalton and Gorham-Fayette Fire Departments, with support from Morenci EMS, Police, DPW, and T&R Lawn Care.

Water was on the fire within six minutes of the initial call.
