ADRIAN — Adrian Fire Department and multiple agencies responded to a major house fire Wednesday afternoon on Oakwood Road. The call came in just after 4 PM, with reports of visible flames, injuries, and a possible trapped resident.
Due to the severity of the initial reports and heavy smoke visible across town, a second alarm was activated, bringing aid from Madison, Adrian Township, Raisin and Cambridge Townships, and the Lenawee County Drone Team. Bedford Township also repositioned an ambulance to assist local EMS.
When crews arrived, the rear and attic of the two-story home were fully engulfed in flames. Two residents had jumped from a second-story window to escape and were assisted by a passing nurse before being transported to Hickman Hospital.
Firefighters battled intense heat and humidity, with additional support from Tecumseh, Morenci, and Palmyra Township Fire Departments.
No firefighters were injured. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, but early signs indicate it was not intentionally set.
