Bryan Hugh Mincks, age 76, of Tecumseh, Michigan, went to be with the Lord at Trinity Health Ann Arbor, on Saturday, July 19, 2025. Beloved father, husband, brother, and friend, he set an example of selflessness and humility anchored in his strong Christian faith.
Bryan’s childhood was spent living in several locations because his father was an Army surgeon – one of his favorites was Hawaii, where he started school in his bare feet. Later he called Bloomfield, Iowa, home. In Iowa, he was an alumnus of Iowa Wesleyan University, where was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He stayed close with his fellow fraternity brothers for over fifty years.
As a young adult, he was the aide to an Iowa congressman and he had the honor of escorting Miss Iowa to President Nixon’s Inaugural Ball. His career took him into Development Work at Iowa Wesleyan University, Aquinas College, Lake Superior State University, and, finally, Boysville of Michigan. He loved helping others as a dedicated member of the Lenawee County community, including the Kiwanis Club of Tecumseh and volunteering at Hickman Hospital after his retirement. He also remained active at Grace Point Church of Adrian.
Bryan and his wife, Elaine, were married in 1982 at Cascade Christian Church in Grand Rapids, MI, and have had many fun adventures over forty-three years. He raised two successful daughters, a physician and a veterinarian, both of whom he was very proud. Bryan also treasured time spent with his many cousins at the Mincks and Sebrell reunions over the years. He traveled to Ecuador and maintained a lifelong friendship with his foreign exchange “brother”, Eduardo Mora Anda.
Bryan was known throughout his family and community as a friend to all, who could start a conversation with anyone and make them feel welcomed. His smile and glow could light up a room. His loss is great.
He is preceded in death by his father, James Robert Mincks; his mother, Lois (Sebrell) Mincks; and sisters, Ellen Mincks and Debbie (Marc) Mincks Lindeen. He is survived by his wife, Elaine (Shobbrook) Mincks; daughters, Dr. Abbie Mincks of Fort Wayne, IN, and Dr. Holly Mincks of Grand Rapids, MI; sister, Patricia (Doug) Mincks Berryman of Pulaski, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Visitation for Bryan will be held from 3pm-6pm on Sunday, July 27, 2025 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. A celebration of life will be held Monday, July 28, 2025 at 11am at Grace Point Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Jeff Barbieri officiating with visitation at the church from 10am until time of the service. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in person at the funeral or sent to the funeral home directly to a future scholarship fund in Bryan’s name
