ADRIAN — The Lenawee Intermediate School District Board passed a resolution recognizing ProMedica and LISD staff for their partnership on the Project SEARCH program. The initiative has helped more than 60 students with disabilities transition successfully into the workforce.
Project SEARCH began locally during the 2014–15 school year and has since grown into a key component of the district’s special education services. The program provides real-world internship experiences for students with disabilities, emphasizing workplace readiness and long-term employment outcomes.
According to the district, approximately 85 percent of Project SEARCH participants have secured employment following program completion. A new class of six interns is expected to begin in the upcoming school year, continuing the model of hospital-based job training with support from LISD staff and ProMedica mentors.
The board approved the resolution unanimously. The program also received praise for its positive impact on student confidence and independence.
LISD officials said they plan to maintain support for the program and continue seeking ways to expand workforce training opportunities for students with disabilities in future years.
