DETROIT — Detroit’s Festival of Books is on track to be the biggest it’s ever been. Organizers say this year’s Bookfest, happening Sunday, July 20, will nearly double in size compared to previous years.

Now in its eighth year, the festival has expanded beyond Eastern Market’s Shed 5 to include Sheds 4 and 6, plus outdoor vendor tents nearby. More than 250 authors, illustrators, and vendors will be on hand offering books, memorabilia, and collectibles, with a strong focus on Detroit culture and history.

There will also be free children’s activities in the DTE Plaza and a book donation drive to support Birdie’s Bookmobile. Festivalgoers are encouraged to bring new or gently used children’s books for the cause.

Admission is free from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 20th.

And for the first time, a special “Bookfest at the Main” event will be held Friday, July 18, at the Detroit Public Library’s Main Branch, featuring streamed author panels through PBS Books.
