ADRIAN — The Lenawee County Health Department is urging residents to take precautions against ticks, as Lyme disease cases continue to rise across the county.
As of July 1st, 10 cases have been confirmed in Lenawee County. If the trend holds, the area could see up to 20 cases by the end of the year — the highest in five years and a 25% increase from 2024.
Lyme disease is spread by blacklegged ticks and can lead to serious health issues if not caught early. Symptoms include fever, fatigue, muscle pain, and a rash.
To prevent illness, avoid tall grass and brush, use EPA-approved insect repellent, check for ticks daily, and shower soon after being outdoors.
If you spot a tick, remove it quickly and contact your doctor if symptoms develop.
