FRANKLIN TWP. — The Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office has clarified that a fatal Franklin Township crash on June 28 did not involve gunshot wounds, despite initial reports from emergency personnel.

Deputies responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash near Tipton Highway and Kemp Road in Franklin Township at 6:09 AM on June 28. The 22-year-old driver from Jackson was the only person in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Hospital staff initially believed the driver had sustained gunshot wounds. However, following an autopsy on June 30, the Medical Examiner advised detectives that the injuries were not caused by gunfire. The examiner noted the injuries could have reasonably appeared to be gunshot wounds in the emergency setting.

The crash remains under active investigation by the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office is continuing to gather information about the events leading up to the crash. Anyone with details is encouraged to contact Detective Dan Hiscock at 517-263-0524.
