Hanni Laura Nichols left us for the stars on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. Hanni was born on August 8, 1966, to Sandra Elaine Gerhart and Lyle Gerhart. She is survived by her brother Michael, her sister Kiri, her three nephews Kaleb, Keegan, and Lincoln, her aunt Lois Curtis, and her close friend and ex-husband, Steven Nichols. A born teacher, Hanni graduated from Michigan State University and became one of the most well respected and loved professors on staff. She dedicated her life to her students and touched countless hearts and minds along the way, providing advice and encouragement to so many that would inevitably call her “friend”. Wanderlust doesn’t even begin to describe her love for exploring the world and its sights, especially the American Southwest. She shared her journeys with many along the way in hopes of spreading even a fraction of her joy for experiencing all there is to see and encouraged others to do the same. She will leave behind an irreplaceable gap in our hearts, but she will always be with us. She is part of us all, and we will never forget her endless compassion, love, and patience. A Memorial Service for Hanni will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
