TECUMSEH — Tecumseh Public Schools has released a preliminary 2025–26 budget proposal that assumes a $250 per-pupil funding increase and flat enrollment across the district. Officials project total revenues near $33.3 million.

The proposed 2025–26 budget was presented during the June 9 board meeting by district administration. It reflects a conservative fiscal outlook driven by uncertainty in state-level appropriations and enrollment shifts. The district is planning for flat student counts after observing higher-than-expected kindergarten and young five registrations this spring.

Superintendent and finance officials emphasized that while the governor and legislature have proposed various foundation allowance increases, the district opted to budget using a more cautious $250 per-pupil estimate for planning purposes.

Key revenue streams include $26.9 million from state sources, based on the foundation allowance, and $2.4 million in local property tax collections. Additional revenue includes $1.9 million in special education funding through the Lenawee Intermediate School District. Federal revenue was projected at $344,000, reflecting the expiration of pandemic-era ESSER grants.

Expenditure planning accounts for staff compensation, facility operations, and required pension contributions. A revised pay scale for administrative retirements was also discussed, with plans to implement an updated structure in coordination with state retirement guidelines.

The draft budget and accompanying documentation were distributed to board members on June 9. A formal vote is expected later this month.

The final adoption of the 2025–26 budget is expected before the end of the fiscal year. Any adjustments from state aid negotiations will be incorporated through a future amendment. The district aims to maintain stable programming and staffing levels through the fall.
