
Jimmie Lou Williams, age 91, of Adrian, Michigan, passed away Monday morning, June 9, 2025, at home surrounded by the love of her family and under the care of Elara Caring Hospice.
Jimmie Lou hails from Detroit, Alabama, where she was born on September 22, 1933, one of John and Millie (Jeffreys) Rye’s thirteen children.
On December 26, 1950, Jimmie received her best Christmas present when she married L.D. Williams in Fulton, Mississippi. Jimmie and L.D. were blessed with two sons and a daughter, raising them in the Adrian area. Jimmie and L.D. enjoyed taking many wonderful trips down south to see family and friends, and a favorite spot to visit was Branson, Missouri. Jimmie and L.D. were fortunate to share 55 years together, before L.D.’s death in 2005.
During Jimmie’s working career, she had many different roles in the medical field at Bixby Hospital. She started out as a nurse aide from 1954 to 1957and transitioned to a ward secretary from 1957 to 1968; before moving on to a pharmacy technician at the hospital from 1968 to 1990. Jimmie and her family attended Adrian Church of the Nazarene and later, Bethany Assembly of God for many years. When she was younger, Jimmie belonged on her church bowling league with L.D. where they shared many laughs and great friendships. Southern fried cooking was Jimmie’s specialty, with coco gravy with homemade biscuits being a family favorite.
She will be missed by her children, Allen D. Williams, Christopher L. (Becki) Williams and Linda M. (Greg) Jenkins; grandchildren, Summer (Kyle) Mitternight, Joshua Williams, Jamie Sloan, Erin (Dustin) Kasel, Erika Williams, Micah (David) Draeger, Krista (Doug) Barrett, Luke Jenkins (Chelsea Westgate) and Landon Jenkins; great-grandchildren, Jenson, Rylan, Jor-El, Freya, Athena, Emma, Gage, Jeffrey, Lucas and Jordynn; siblings, Evadell Williams, Olen (Joann) Rye and Hershel (Gail) Rye; and special friends, Beverly Barker and Nicole. Jimmie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, L.D.; siblings, Samuel A., Lemuel, Wilbur, Marvin C. Johnny, Laymon, Sanford, Jessma and Evelyn; and a great-grandson, Odin Lynn Draeger.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian, with Rev. Ron Sparks officiating. Burial will follow the service at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
