TECUMSEH — Downtown events in Tecumseh are ramping up this June, with three major festivals scheduled and significant changes announced to vendor layout and parking access. Updates were shared at the June 5 meeting of the Tecumseh Events, Activities, and Marketing Committee.

Fairy & Pirate Day will take place on June 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Children visiting at least 17 of the 34 participating businesses will qualify for a prize drawing. Expenses for the event are estimated under $300.

The expanded Sun & Sand Festival is set for July 18–19 with a $27,000 budget. The festival includes early-start sand sculpting, a downtown street party, food trucks, a scavenger hunt, and a themed pet parade. Tecumseh Events, Activities, and Marketing (TEAM) allocated $6,000 to help fund the event, with $2,420 of that going toward merchant co-op support.

Organizers emphasized the need for volunteers to help with street party cleanup Friday at 10 p.m. and basketball tournament teardown Saturday at 5 p.m. The scale of the events has created a higher-than-usual demand for assistance.

During the meeting, officials also confirmed layout and parking changes for the upcoming Appleumpkin Festival. With nearly 240 vendors registered, the antique section will be eliminated. Vendors previously assigned to North Pearl Street will be relocated to South Ottawa Street to improve pedestrian traffic flow. Parking for vendors will now be available in the former monster truck lot.

The TEAM Committee approved the bylaws governing event procedures, membership eligibility, and spending safeguards. Nominations for two open board seats were also confirmed.

Future planning will focus on promotional coordination, event signage, and vendor communication ahead of Appleumpkin in October.
