Tires, Fees, and Donuts: Lenawee’s Spring Cleanup Rolls Smoothly

ADRIAN — Lenawee County’s spring scrap tire collection brought in over $3,000 and filled a trailer and a half with discarded tires — all without a single complaint about the $4 per-tire fee.

This year’s event saw a smaller turnout than last spring, but the cost offset was worth it. Without state grant funding, the county implemented a flat fee and enforced a ten-tire limit to keep the operation under control. One man attempted to unload 40–50 tires and was turned away.

After a brief traffic hiccup early in the day, the event ran smoothly. Volunteers from First Tee pitched in, and one grateful resident returned on a second trip with donuts for the crew.

It wasn’t the biggest haul, but it was clean, calm, and covered.
