ADRIAN — Homemade food is back on the menu for NASCAR weekend at Lenawee County Airport.
Pilots flying in for the June 6–8 race will once again be served hot meals prepared by airport staff and longtime volunteers — a tradition that had lapsed due to health department rules.
Airport Manager Thomas Kendziora stated that the event qualifies as private, with reserved ramp space and limited access, which means no temporary food license is required. That clarification came after talks with the county health department.
The move is expected to boost morale — and possibly fuel sales — after pilots expressed disappointment in past years when the food service was unavailable.
With JR’s, a local favorite of race crews now closed, the airport hopes the return of homemade Tex-Mex and BBQ will help fill the gap.
