
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David William Irwin,
beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who departed this life on Tuesday,
June 3, 2025, at Hickman Hospital in Adrian, MI at the age of 85.
Born on October 10, 1939, in Dover Township, Michigan, David was the son of Harley Ruben and
Alice (Bachman) Irwin, and was raised by Harley Ruben and Marie (Hunt) Irwin. David honorably
served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 – 1963 during which, in 1962 he met the love of his life
Donna Jean Johnson whom he married in August 1962 in Norfolk, VA, enjoying a profound and
enduring partnership throughout their 62 years together.
Upon completing his naval service, David undertook a four year apprenticeship program at
American Chain and Cable where he went on to start a career as a Tool and Die Maker. David
continued a distinguished career working for General Motors, Ford and the Tecumseh Products
Company, from which he retired in 2000.
David’s life was rich with passions and hobbies. A gentleman farmer and woodcraftsman, David
enjoyed countless adventures with his wife traveling across the United States on their
motorcycles, often accompanied by family and friends. His love for the outdoors was evident in
his joy of camping and dedication to family gatherings.
His commitment to community service was exemplified through his active membership with the
American Legion Post 71, Lake Wales, FL where he engaged in supporting veterans and their
families with kindness and dedication.
David leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by his daughter Rebecca (Michael) McCann of
Adrian, Michigan; son Kevin (Christine) Irwin of Hutchinson, Kansas; nine grandchildren, and
seven great-grandchildren who were touched by his warmth and generosity.
He follows in eternal rest his parents, wife and son, Mark D. Irwin. His memory will live on in the
hearts of all who knew him.
In honoring David’s life, we remember him not only for his personal achievements but for his
love of family, his adventurous spirit, and his unwavering kindness. As we mourn his loss, we
also celebrate the incredible life he led and the everlasting impact he made on those around
him.

Wales, FL or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306.
A Celebration of Life for David and Donna will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the
Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian followed by Military Honors by American Legion Fint-Annis Post #97, Adrian. Cremation to
follow. Visitation will be held from 5-8 P.M. on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home,
Adrian. The burial of cremains will take place at a later date in Lenawee Hills Memorial Garden,
