ADRIAN — Textron’s busted garage doors almost cost taxpayers $2,000.

Instead, airport staff grabbed parts from Lowe’s and did the job themselves — completing the repairs for just under $700.

The savings drew praise from county officials, who applauded the DIY fix as a clever use of in-house skills and public dollars. The doors, located in a building rented by Textron Aviation, were originally part of the structure and were long overdue for replacement.

Airport Manager Thomas Kendziora said that outsourcing the work would have more than tripled the cost. By keeping it local, the airport cuts expenses without cutting corners.

It’s part of a broader effort to stretch airport dollars further — utilizing internal labor, local sourcing, and tighter budget oversight wherever possible.
