ADRIAN — Lenawee County’s Accounts Payable Committee approved its latest batch of expenses this week, with discussions ranging from routine payroll deductions to six-figure jail medical contracts.
Members reviewed line items, including staff insurance contributions, hotel stays for judicial conferences, and a $21,000 furniture invoice — a shared cost spread across multiple departments, including Equalization and the Treasurer’s Office.
Another item flagged was a monthly $80,000 medical contract for jail services — part of a larger $1 million annual cost expected to rise due to increased prescription coverage.
Committee members also raised questions about automated external defibrillators (AEDs). While some county buildings have them, the one where the meeting took place does not. Officials said previous funding for widespread deployment was pulled, leaving gaps in coverage.
The meeting wrapped with unanimous approval of the disbursement report. No public comments were made.
