ADRIAN — The historic Wooden Old Stone School in Onsted will host a special 175th Anniversary Open House Celebration on Saturday, June 7th, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
This milestone event will highlight the schoolhouse’s rich legacy in the Onsted community, symbolizing dedication, education, and local heritage.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the one-room schoolhouse, learn from historical displays, and connect with others who treasure this piece of Michigan history.
The School’s Oral History video will be shown before the program begins at noon.
One of the most moving activities of the day will be led by Onsted Elementary School’s 5th-grade class, who have been diligently raising funds to purchase a new flagpole and American flag to be installed on the schoolhouse grounds.
These students will present the flag and lead attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of the National Anthem. Local and state leaders, including State Senator Joseph Bellino and Representative Nancy Jenkins, will be in attendance.
A highlight of the celebration will be to honor Marcella Barricklow’s 100th birthday.
Marcella is one of the schoolhouse’s former students.
Light refreshments will be provided.
