
Jeanie Vernell McVay, age 84, of Blissfield, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11, 2025, under the loving care of her daughter, Laurie, loving granddaughter Maggie, son-in-law Mike, and Elara Caring Hospice.
Born on September 17, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, Jeanie was the daughter of John and Oma (Griffen) Hale. In September of 1972, she married John McVay in Illinois. They shared over 47 wonderful years of marriage along with stepchildren: Jan (John) Roe, Judy (Steven) Walker, Sharon McVay, Ruck McVay, and Don McVay and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jeanie made history as the first female line worker on the production line at Tecumseh Products. Her dedication and pioneering spirit left a lasting impression. She also worked at The Tog Shop in Tecumseh and shared her passion for dance as a clogging instructor for the Warehouse Cloggers at a local studio owned by Martins warehouse.
A devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jeanie found joy in both her faith and her many interests. She had a deep appreciation for art and gardening, loved to cook and clean, and enjoyed collecting antiques. Traveling brought her happiness, and she had an undeniable sweet tooth. Above all else, Jeanie cherished her family and was always present when needed—offering unwavering support and love.
To cherish her memory, Jeanie leaves her daughter, Laurie (Michael Scott) Schmidt, a granddaughter, Maggie Schmidt, and a cherished sister-in-law Debbie Hale. Jeanie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Oma Hale; her husband, John; four sisters: Thelma, Josephine, Marianne, and Betty; and a brother, Johnny.
Cremation has taken place. Burial of cremains will occur on June 7th at 3 pm at Calvary Cemetery, Hudson.
