ADRIAN — Adrian High School is overhauling its advanced academic offerings — expanding Advanced Placement classes, tightening dual enrollment standards, and phasing out the International Baccalaureate program after next year.
The new model splits advanced courses into a clear ladder: Honors, AP, and Dual Enrollment. Honors classes remain on the standard 4.0 scale, while AP courses — including new options like Pre-Calc, English Composition, and Arts — jump to a 5.0 scale to reflect college-level rigor.
Enrollment for AP is already growing, with some classes topping 20 students.
Dual enrollment is also getting an upgrade. Instead of chasing general credits, students are now guided toward relevant courses that actually count toward their future college programs. Meanwhile, the IB program will sunset after next year. Current juniors in Higher Level tracks can finish out, but no new students will be enrolled.
It’s a shift toward depth over quantity, aiming to give students more meaningful college prep — not just inflated GPAs. The bottom line: fewer dead credits, more direction, and stronger pathways for college-bound and career-focused students alike.
