ADRIAN — Students at Adrian High School are mapping their futures earlier than ever — starting with ninth grade success plans that stretch from the classroom to college, trade careers, and beyond.

The district has implemented a structured plan that kicks off in students’ freshman year and builds year by year. Creating a living document designed to track goals, course needs, and post-graduation ambitions, from four-year degrees to skilled trades or simply earning a diploma on time.

The program runs through advisory periods and counseling sessions, giving students a visual roadmap and regular check-ins to stay on course. Sophomores are already finishing their plans this spring, and new freshmen will start fresh in the fall.

Each plan includes dropdown options for career fields, course pathways, and even electives — helping staff align students with the right academic or technical track before they reach upperclassman status.

Administrators say the system is especially useful for connecting students with dual enrollment, advanced placement, or Tech Center options while still giving flexibility for those unsure of their next step. It’s part of a wider push to bring intentionality into course selection — not just checking boxes, but preparing students for what comes after high school.

The district expects every ninth and tenth grader to complete a success plan by the end of this school year. More tools are in development to help younger grades follow suit.
