ADRIAN — Lenawee County’s Veterans Affairs office is adjusting its operations after a $38,000 reduction in state funding.
The news was shared during Friday’s Veterans Affairs Executive Committee meeting. Officials say the county had already been approved for the 2026 Veterans Service Fund grant when the state walked back the award, citing an overestimation made at the administrative level.
As a result, Veterans Service Director Tammy Sheldon had just over a week to rewrite and resubmit the county’s grant application, while also identifying where cuts could be made. The revised application was submitted on time and is now awaiting approval.
Despite the setback, the office emphasized its continued commitment to supporting veterans in the community and highlighted the value of showcasing how grant dollars are used at the local level.
The state is expected to finalize the corrected grant approvals in the coming weeks.
