ADRIAN — The signal’s getting stronger in Lenawee County; Commissioners have approved a $25,000 investment to overhaul outdated wireless access points and finally pull the plug on an unsupported server.
At the May 1st I.T. and Equalization Committee meeting, members unanimously backed the request to replace aging access points tied to a legacy Cisco 2504 Wireless LAN Controller that’s no longer supported by the manufacturer. The funding comes from the county’s Capital Improvement Plan.
The project includes 21 new Cisco Catalyst access points and licensing to bring older equipment in line with the county’s newer 9800 series controller—consolidating systems and improving network reliability across county facilities. The county’s I.T. department will handle the hardware swap internally, avoiding the need for onsite contractors.
The upgrade is part of a broader modernization push that also includes recent phone system migrations, A R P A-funded camera installations, and ongoing network expansions at county campuses like Maurice Spear.
With the green light now official, county tech teams are expected to begin replacing the aging hardware in the coming weeks.
