ADRIAN — Adrian’s Community Development Director, Lisa Hewitt-Cruz, reported that since the implementation of the city’s point-of-sale ordinance, 75 exterior inspections have been conducted, with 56 identifying violations.
The ordinance, which mandates exterior inspections of residential properties before sale, aims to combat blight and ensure neighborhood safety.
Public response has been divided. Some residents commend the initiative for addressing neglected properties, while others express concerns about the financial burden on sellers, especially the elderly and disabled. Critics argue that the ordinance may inadvertently discourage property sales and question the clarity of the enforcement process.
The city commission acknowledges these concerns and is considering adjustments to the ordinance to balance community safety with homeowner responsibilities.
