ADRIAN, Mich. — Adrian’s Interim City Administrator, Vince Emrick, has been appointed Acting City Clerk while the City Commission searches for a permanent replacement.
Mayor Angie Sword Heath told WLEN the appointment is temporary while the city moves through the hiring process. Heath said the application period for the full-time City Clerk position has closed, and interviews are now underway.
A final candidate will be recommended to the Commission by a selection team, which includes a City Commissioner, the Acting Administrator, and the city’s Human Resources Manager. Heath noted that the Clerk, along with the City Administrator and City Attorney, must be formally appointed by Commission resolution once a candidate is chosen.
Emrick previously declined an offer to become Adrian’s permanent City Administrator, opting instead to continue leading city operations on an interim basis while a long-term administrator is sought. He also remains the city’s Chief of Police.
City officials expect the full Clerk hiring process to take some time but say interest in the position has been strong.
WLEN will continue to follow the story.
