Sepulveda Trial: Witnesses Struggle with Memories, Brother Alleges Mutilation

ADRIAN, Mich. Testimony in the Ricardo Sepulveda murder trial continued Friday in Lenawee County Circuit Court, with several witnesses taking the stand.

First up was Katherine Furell, followed by Brian Chereko, a self-described former drug runner. Both offered limited insight, with their memories appearing strained by the passage of time. Braheem Dahar, another former associate, and Misty Reynolds, the defendant’s ex, followed. Understandably, all witnesses appeared to struggle with the events, as they took place nearly three decades ago.

Much of the day focused on testimony from Ricardo’s brother, Michael Sepulveda, who has struck a deal for a 10-year sentence in exchange for his truthful testimony. Michael described meeting the unidentified victim at the Music Box club in Toledo. He says the man was lured into a van, struck on the head with a mallet, and driven to Michigan where the murder took place.

Michael claimed the body was later mutilated—hands and head removed—to prevent identification.

Defense attorneys aggressively cross-examined witnesses, often attempting to discredit their statements. One courtroom observer noted that while the strategy appeared legally permissible, the tone at times bordered on manipulative, especially when targeting witnesses with foggy memories.

The trial wraps up today, April 25, starting at 9 am. WLEN will bring you updates as they arrive.
