ADRIAN, Mich. — Adrian residents voiced concerns Monday night over property-related fees and the city’s handling of vacant buildings.
During a public hearing at the City Commission meeting, one resident protested a $1,000 charge for a property inspection, calling the fee excessive and unfair. The charge was linked to the city’s vacant property registration program.
City officials said no votes were scheduled on the matter, which gives them time to review the complaints. Residents were encouraged to speak with city staff to sort out billing questions or possible miscalculations.
The city has recently stepped up enforcement of vacant building ordinances, aiming to reduce the number of long-empty and deteriorating properties. Some commissioners noted that while the process can be frustrating, it’s part of a broader effort to improve safety, attract new businesses, and bring life back to underused buildings.
